As a voiceover artist, you know how important narration can be. In fact, narration is so critical that it can ruin a well-made video if not done the right way. That’s why, as an aspiring voiceover artist, you need to keep working on your skills as often as possible.
Here are a few tips to help you out:
Choose a suitable voice
Voiceover artists back in the day used the typical “announcer” tone. The tone was deep and heavy, almost authoritarian. Plus, the industry was generally dominated by male voices. Now, things have changed. The tone used presently is much more casual and conversational. It’s also not strange to hear female voices describing a product or making an announcement.
This makes thing much easier for a beginner. You don’t need to follow all those unnecessary and old trends. But, priority is still given to clarity and how your tone fits the narration. You need to learn to modulate your tone in order to sound relevant to the topic of narration.
Practice
There is no better teacher than regular practice. Learn to balance your natural speaking abilities with proper enunciation. Record your test runs to see how they sound. If you notice mistakes, note them down. For instance, if you find that you can’t pronounce a word right or enunciate it in the right way, make it a point to keep repeating it until you get it perfect. Eventually, you’ll notice the change happening.
Be thorough with the material
This is a very important part of being a voiceover artist. You need to make sure that the material you are narrating is at the tip of your fingers. Irrespective of what you are narrating, make sure you remember what to say. Keep a track of all the terms and phrases. When you rehearse, don’t do it mentally. Instead, keep reciting the content out loud, so that you know how you sound. Things tend to sound different in your head when compared to the actual output. Plus, rehearsing this way will also help you identify mistakes.
